My name is Watti Olorunjuwon, I am a STEM educator and a social entrepreneur. I have always been a big fan of the Nokia brand from the days of the Java and Symbian phones and I believe their entry into the Android phone sector howbeit not so celebrated is a good move. My former phone had begun to develop multiple faults and it became obvious I needed a new phone. As a STEM educator and a social entrepreneur, my life is always on the go with travels, meeting, schedules to catch up with, emails back and forth, learning and research. Over the years my phone has come to become a part of my process in meeting up with my daily to do’s. After due consultations from a few friends that are gadget freaks and reading up reviews and specifications, I decided to get the Nokia 5.1 Plus. Beyond the aesthetics of a phone which is equally important to me, other specifications such as the processor speed, Camera and memory to mention a few are important as well and so far my experience using Nokia 5.1 plus meets the criteria’s listed above. I must say ever since the Nokia brand returned into the smartphone world they have been able to push quite a number of Impressive phones with commendable specification and features into the market. Here is why I think so;
The Sleek Design
The phone has several color variant, but mine is black in color. The exterior of the phone is sleek with a metal frame and a glass back. It has a 5.8 inch IPS display powered with a 3GB RAM and an aspect ratio of 19:9. The screen resolution makes it’s easy to do almost anything on the phone from watching YouTube videos to typing, playing games, and so on. The sleekness of the design gives the phone a classy look which I so much love and I secretly do hope it never falls because having to use a broken gadget irritates me much.
According to my research, Nokia pioneered innovations in smartphone camera tech, they sure would never disappoint when it comes to the phone camera. The phone has dual rare Camera. While the main Camera has a 13mp sensor, the assisting camera has a 5mp sensor. The front Camera has an 8mp sensor which allows for taking quality crystal clear Images and it is very handy for taking selfies and making videos and capturing moments. The Camera helps to take high-quality videos and images and it is highly recommendable for phone photography.
The phone uses Android 8.1 (Oreo) OS which is upgradable to Android 9.0 and Android One. It is powered by Octa-Core (4×1.8GHz Cortex –A73 & 4×1.8GHz Cortex – A53). My own variation of the phone has an internal memory of 32GB, which could be extended to 400GB with a Micro SD and a 3GB RAM. The specification listed gives the phone above average speed in carrying out tasks and allows greatly for multitasking. It also has a dual SIM port, making it possible to have two mobile lines on the same phone. The phone’s performance is commendable.
The phone has several sensors such as the Fingerprint (rear-mounted), accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity, and compass. The most exciting to me is the gyroscope, mostly because of my friend Samuel, who is a Virtual Reality (VR) freak. The gyroscope is a device that uses the earth’s gravity to help determine orientation. Its design consist of a freely rotating disk called a rotor, mounted onto a spinning axis in the center of a larger and more stable wheel. The gyroscope in a mobile phone allows for watching 360-degree photos and Video. As the phone is moved, the video or photo portion also moves because of the gyroscope. The gyroscope allows for the phone to work with a VR box and for watching 3D videos and playing 3D games. I remember watching the 3D version of the Movie “Venom” on my phone on a VR box with my headset, it felt like I was in the Cinema.
The Phone Battery
It has a 3060mAh battery and it is inbuilt into the phone, cannot be seen or changed by the users. Although it is not a fast charging phone, it can be charged from flat to full charge in two hours and could last a whole day with a single charge with moderate use.
Nokia 5.1 plus has a loudspeaker placed towards the down part and very close to the charging port of the phone. The sound from the speaker could be irritating if it is on 100% volume level but has a very good output if reduced to about 70% volume level. It also has a headphone jack that makes it possible to use earpiece, headsets and to also listen to FM radio.
Overall the Nokia 5.1 plus is a very good phone to have and use. I have had one of my very best experience using an android phone with the Nokia 5.1 plus. The specifications and its unique quality make my day to day activities and business operation easy and smooth and it also comes at a very affordable price. The classy external look also meets my aesthetics requirements, the image quality of the phone Camera is impressive, the gyroscope makes it possible to use the phone with the VR BOX, the processor speed is Impressive and I can go on forever. In summary, the Nokia 5.1 plus is a very good phone to have.
A little Disappointment
On receiving the delivery of the phone, while I was impressed with all other specifications of the phone, I was a little disappointed that the phone didn’t come with an earpiece. I would not know if it was from the manufacturer or it got misplaced at the retailer’s store, I certainly would have loved for the phone to come with an earpiece, but I have absolutely had a good experience using my Nokia 5.1 plus phone and I would highly recommend it for anyone and everyone to have. I would rate the phone 8 on a scale of 10.
