OnePlus 3: User review
OnePlus is well known Chinese smartphone start-up company for tech geeks and tech lovers. The company has a different approach to building mobile devices, as well they are fully customer oriented. OnePlus 3 is their latest model from mid 2016, and you can get it for only 399$ from their official web shop. As you may know, for the last couple of years they had had invitations system for buying, and it is (finally) gone! I have my OnePlus 3 for over two months now and I could not be more happy with. It is all they are claiming it is. Super fast, great built quality, only Samsung Galaxy S7 can compete with its Super Amoled screen, because OnePlus 3 have an Optic Amoled screen.
BATTERY LIFE & CHARGING
With non-removable 3000 mAh Li-Ion battery OnePlus 3 is phone with one of the biggest battery in the market. You could think that it will take forever to charge it, but you could not be more wrong. OnePlus has their own Dash Charge technology. Dash Charge is direct opponent to Qualcoms Quick charge, and it is winning this race for miles.
For example, if you are a normal user (Internet browsing, Gmail syncing, social networking, etc.) you can easily get over 5 hours SOT (Screen On Time). Surprise, surprise, with Android 7.0.0. Nougat update, SOT is even better. So far, you can get it, with OnePlus 3 you will have a phone that can easily get through the day. But, if you are super hard on battery, there is Dash Charge that will charge your phone from 5% to 100% in a little bit more than 1 hour. Only flaw is USB type C and the fact that you can use Dash Charge only with OnePlus charger.
PERFORMANCE & DESIGN
OnePlus 3 is a well built mobile device with aluminum back cover. Aluminum back is the reason why is so slippery and you will have to have some protection on it if you want to have your phone in one piece. Other than that it is almost perfect. The design is well balanced and you can easily hold it with one hand. It has Quad-core Snapdragon 820 processor with 6 GB of RAM and Adreno 530 graphic processor.
Internal memory is 64 GB and only con is that the phone has no memory card slot. The camera is 16 MP, f/2.0 with LED flash, and front shooter is 8 MP. Rear facing camera is shooting video in 2K with 50fps, and 1080p video with 60fps. Front camera is capable of recording video in 1080p. OnePlus 3 have fingerprint scanner which is front-mounted and it is super fast. There is almost no delay from a time when you put your finger on the scanner and unlocking the phone. As I said before, the display is 5.5 inches Optic AMOLED with 401 ppi pixel density. You could say the resolution is only 1080×1920, but this display is so crisp that you could never tell that it is not QHD.
STRENGTH & DURABILITY
As I mentioned before, built quality is very good and the phone itself is durable as the phone today can be. Official OnePlus 3 have no IP certificate, but some reports say it can easily survive under water for more than 1 hour. Just don’t try it at home, it is not recommended. If you have to send it back for repair, there is no other way than sending the OnePlus 3 phone back to official warehouse. For example for Europe OnePlus have their warehouses in the Czech Republic and Poland.
When you are talking about the best features of OnePlus 3 you have to say there is a lot of them. The first thing that I like, and I don’t know how I could live without it before is Dash Charge. It is super fast charging and you can just relax and be sure you your phone will be ready when you need it most.
Second feature I like is OxygenOS. OxygenOS is OnePlus version of TouchWiz, but it is a pure Android experience with a couple of hacks that make life so much easier. The third thing I like about this phone is its price. For 399$ you can’t get more and expect more. You will get flagship experience in half of the normal flagship price. Last, but not least is user experience. This phone is so fast, with 6 GB of Ram there is no better phone on the market and you will see that in the first couple of minutes of use. Apps are opening in lightning speed, multitasking is almost perfect. You can easily get over 30 apps open and it would not lag, not even a little. I have my phone over two months and I have not experienced not even one lag.
On the other hand, there are a couple of features that are not so good (or you can say perfect, because they are ok). First, I can say I am frustrated with phone camera bump. If you don’t have protective mask, it is huge. I don’t know what was in their mind. Today it is not normal for a flagship phone to have a so big camera bump. Oh, and the camera itself is not on the same level with Samsung Galaxy S7 or iPhone 7. Just to say, the camera is great, and if you are normal user you will not see any difference. The second worst feature is service network. If you have your phone broken you will have to send it to their warehouse and company warranty policy is very strict.
In the end, I would say that OnePlus 3 is an almost perfect phone with few downsides. Just like I said before, I have it for almost three months and my life has changed. Before OnePlus 3 I had Lg Spirit and this is a whole new world for me. For so small and new company OnePlus is doing a great job. High-end specs and great built quality in reasonable price is what they are insisting on. This years phone is upgrade from OnePlus 2 and I can say it is worth of every penny you pay for it. If you are buying a new phone, don’t hesitate to try something new and buy OnePlus 3, you will never regret it.
