If you are looking for a budget smartphone then xiaomi surely has the product you are looking for. I bought the xiaomi’s redmi4 after my last phone had some issues. At that time of the year, redmi 4 was the best option that I could afford and I can say for sure that if you are also looking for a good budget smartphone then consider buying redmi 4 and you won’t be disappointed. The phone has some problems but these problems can be overlooked considering the price of the product. In this user review, I would be covering the pros and cons of the phone, along with my opinion whether you should buy the phone considering the way you use your device. Before we get started with the pros and cons of the product first let’s see what redmi 4 offers in terms of specifications.
Sensors: a fingerprint sensor, an infrared sensor, accelerometer.
Pros of Redmi4:
In my opinion, the phone has an attractive and expensive look. The body is crafted from metal which makes it look good and gives it the extra handy feature. The phone has 5.0″ IPS LCD display which is perfect for a normal day to day user. The average size of the phone makes it super handy and the user can get used to handling the phone in no time. The fingerprint sensor at the rear of the phone makes super comfortable, for the user, to unlock. Coming on the front side of the phone, it comes with 2.5D glass which is seen in many mid-range to high range phones, this feature shows that even though the phone is a budget one the brand has not compromised with the quality of the product.
The phone has its scanner situated at the back of the phone and is super responsive. The user can unlock the phone by just tapping on the scanner. The scanner is situated such that it can be very easily reached by the index finger.
The phone has a 4100 mAh Li-ion battery. I have been using this phone for about 8 months now and I am kind of amazed by the battery life of the phone. It can easily last for about 2 days with a slightly less usage and for about 1.5 days with a heavy usage. If we talk in terms of the screen on time the phone can easily give you around 5.5 to 7.0 hrs of screen time. Even on very heavy usage the phone easily lasts for about a day. When using the phone for extra heavy stuff like GPS and Wi-fi the phone lasted for about 12 to 16 hrs easily. I would give 4.8 stars out of 5 for battery life of the phone. Xiaomi has done a pretty amazing job with the battery life of this phone.
Now coming to the most used feature of the phone these days. I heard that the xiaomi did not do well with the camera in the past, but I found the camera to be quite good. I have taken some very nice shots with the phone and I will have to say that company did improve their camera. The rear camera has an aperture of 2.0 which is good for distant shots and somewhat close up shots, but I would recommend only distant shots with the rear camera. The front camera has an aperture of 2.2 and is very good for taking selfies. The age detection feature of the front camera can be fun sometimes. All in all the camera on the phone is very good and is easy to use.
The speakers on the phone are situated at the bottom of the phone. It has two opening for the speakers but the speakers are actually situated only at the right side of the phone just above the opening. I heard that the sound quality of the phone has increased, but I found it to be average. The earpiece speaker used for the taking call is very good the sound quality is good and is loud enough to make and receive calls.
It has many sensors like compass sensor, gyroscope sensor, auto-brightness sensor, an infrared sensor, GPS sensor. The phone is well equipped with the technology and is working quite well. The GPS sensor works effortlessly and is very good if you use navigation a lot.
Overall the phone works very well. I did not notice any sort of lagging or hanging while using the phone. For a light user like me, the phone works like a charm and is super smooth. The phone comes with custom UI known as MIUI which is very easy to handle and is super light. The phone comes with an extra feature of making your phone a dual phone which means that you can divide the phone into user spaces which makes it very easy to manage. It’s like operating two phones in one. This feature allows you to run the same app on both the user which makes it easy to manage different accounts of the app. Since I am a very light user the 2 GB variant works well for me, but if you are a slightly heavy or a moderate user then you should definitely go with the 3 or 4 GB RAM variant. So I would say that the phone performs very well for general purpose and is sure to please you if are a light or moderate-heavy user.
Cons of Redmi 4:
Although the phone has awesome battery life it takes slightly longer to charge. It takes over 2.5 hours to completely charge and does not support fast charging which can be an issue if you travel a lot. Considering the battery life of the phone this glitch can be overlooked.
I am a big fan of gaming but this phone does not give a good gaming experience, for heavy games the phone gets a little slow and sometimes lags. Light games, on the other hand, are very efficient and give good performance on the phone.
The three navigation buttons are placed at the bottom of the screen and these are not backlit. They can be little hard to hard to operate in dark, But once you get the hang of it, becomes easy to operate.
So these were some of the major drawbacks of the phone. The cons of the phone are very few in comparison to the pros of the phone. The price of the phone makes it one of the best budgets buy.
In my opinion, if you are a light or a moderate user then you can definitely buy this phone without hesitating and it is worth every penny you spend on it. If you are a heavy user but don’t like to play many games on your phone then you can consider buying this phone and this won’t disappoint you.
